Introduction

Lady Reading Health School, Delhi is considered as one of the pioneer institutions and first of its kind for training Health Visitors. It was established in 1918 under the Countess of Dufferin Fund for training Nursing personnel for Maternity Child Health (MCH) Service programme. In 1931 it came under the administrative control of the Indian Red Cross Society (Maternity & Child Welfare Bureau) in 1952 the Government of India took over the School and attached Ram Chand Lohia MCH Centre. The School is controlled financially by the Directorate General of Health Services (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare) and academically affiliated with INC/DNC.

Scope of services

The School aims at providing training facilities to various categories of Nursing Personnel in community health as well as M.C.H. and family welfare services through the attached Ram Chand Lohia MCH and Family Welfare Centre.

AUXILLARY NURSE-CUM-MIDWIFE COURSE

This course is approved by the Indian Nursing Council and examination is conducted by Delhi Nursing Council. Eligibility for the course is 12th pass, with the admission capacity of 40+4 (EWS) students per batch. One batch is selected every year through combined entrance exam. It is a two year Diploma Program. Students go through various curricular and extra-curricular activities during course duration. Theory classes in study blocks, with demonstration and return demonstration in various Labs, Clinical experience in urban and rural community and hospitals and observation visits in various institutes.

CERTIFICATE COURSE FOR HEALTH WORKERS (FEMALE) UNDER MULTIPURPOSE WORKERS SCHEME

Two batches are selected twice in a year (i.e Jan-June and July-Dec) with admission capacity of 20 students in each batch. In view of high demand from MCD and other states more students are being admitted. Eligibility for this course is at least five year experience as ANM and sponsored by their State Government. Selection is done at Dte.GHS, MOHFW by a selection committee chaired by the Nursing Advisor. Clinical experience in urban and rural community and hospitals and observation visits in various institutes goes on regularly.

Maternity and Child Welfare Service through Ram Chand Lohia MCH and Family Welfare Centre.

The Lady Reading Health School provides field practice area for Urban Health experience for the students and gives integrated M.C.H. Family Welfare Services to over 45,000 population through Ram Chand Lohia MCH and Family Welfare Centre. We run weekly clinics like ANC, PNC, Well Baby Clinic, Immunization Services, Family Planning Clinics. Our students conduct exhibition for health education in the community & MCH centre and surveys, home visits, nukad natak are also performed in the community under the guidance of faculty.
