Introduction

Nurses in India make up for 47% of the health workforce of which 82% are female nurses. They are recognized as skilled professionals who accounts for approximately 80% of the contacts between patients and healthcare providers and therefore a strong nursing sector is an essential building block of a sound healthcare delivery system.

Nurses play an important role in health care delivery system. Hence, it is imperative to strengthen the National Level Leadership, which would augment in policymaking, decision-making, liasioning and advocacy issues related to nursing services and nursing education.

Policy Development and Implementation

  • Formulating and implementing nursing policies and guidelines in alignment with the overall healthcare objectives set by the DGHS.
  • Developing standards for nursing practice and ensuring their adherence across healthcare facilities.
  • Initiatives: Prepared working conditions for nursing cadres.
  • Job responsibilities of various cadres of Nursing Personnel and with Committee of Experts for formulation of job responsibilities for Nursing Personnel, Nursing Officer, SNO, ANS, NS, CNO
  • Job responsibilities of Nursing Teaching Cadre and with Committee of Experts for formulation of job responsibilities for Professor cum Principal, Professor cum Vice Principal, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Tutor.
  • Round table consultative meeting with Nursing Leaders/Administrators of the western region of the country for nursing issues/challenges faced in the region.
  • Inputs and recommendations for PIP for states.

Training

  • Initiated & facilitated the induction training & new recruits nursing officers.
  • Initiated and facilitated promotional training program for Sr. Nursing Officers and assistant Nursing superintendent in Central Government Hospitals
  • Mental Health Champion initiatives for the training of CHO & district nurses.
  • Inputs and guidance to leadership in infection prevention control practices for nursing professionals in collaboration with NIHFW.
  • Organized a webinar on Mental Health Day.

Education

  • Supported and participated in NEET counseling for B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Facilitated the visit of M.Sc Nursing student from various institutes/College of Nursing with DGHS.
  • Inputs and facilitation of skill labs at different Colleges of Nursing.

Licensing and Regulation

  • Conducting regular audits and assessments to monitor compliance with established nursing regulations.
  • Conducted visits for CON to ensure the functionality of the respective nursing colleges.
  • Conceptualized and initiated Nursing Registrars regular meeting. Monthly meetings of State Nursing Registrars to discuss their issues, concerns and recent updates of their States.

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals and divisions within the DGHS to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to healthcare delivery.
  • Establishing partnerships with nursing associations, professional organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaboration with TNAI and INC
  • Collaboration and contributes to MoU to the matters relating to nurses education and migration to other countries

Advocacy and Public Health Promotion:

  • Advocating for the role of nursing in healthcare policy discussions.
  • Participating in public health campaigns and initiatives to promote health and prevent disease.
  • Facilitating and coordinating for Dte.GHS Mental Health Champion Program, for District Hospital Nurses and Community Health Officers from the various states of Andhra Pradesh.
