In view of rapidly increasing international travel and trade, diseases can spread across the globe the prevention of international spread of diseases is imperative. As India is signatory to the International Health Regulations -2005, public health measures at international points of entry i.e. airports, ports and land border crossings is a statutory necessity.
The Point of Entries (PoEs) including Airport Health Organizations (APHOs), PHOs Port Health Organizations (PHOs) and Land Border Health Units (LBHUs) are the area where any international passenger may enter legally from one country into another country. The main purpose of the Point of Entries Health (POEs) Organizations is to prevent spread of disease (Public Health Emergencies of International Concern) from foreign countries to India and vice versa.
Additionally, Point of Entries Health (PoEs) Organizations aim to ensure prevention of international spread of disease and provision of safe healthy environment which includes provision of safe food, safe drinking water, sanitation, and vector control at PoEs.
All PoEs work as integral the part of Public Health-International Health (PH-IH) Division under Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Government of India. The Nodal In-charge for all the point of entries is Deputy Director General International Health (DDG-IH).
